Pavones surf camps are the southern most opportunity to catch waves in Costa Rica. This quaint surf village has been a well-kept secret for over 20 years, but today Pavones is one of Costa Rica’s most prized pointbreaks.
The opportunity to ride waves that can stretch over 3 minutes is not to be missed, and for this reason it surfers from all over the world are attracted to this small beach town.
Pavones is a small and tranquil surf village, and unlike other surf spots along the Costa Rican pacific coastline, Pavones does not get consistent year round waves. You’ll need to research swell forecasts carefully before booking into one of the Pavones surf camps available in the area.
When the waves are firing the village comes alive with stoke, and it’s a truly great way to spend a week or three catching what will most likely be some of the longest waves of your life.

Cafe de la Suerte
Adventure lovers favour Cafe de la Suerte over other Pavones surf camps. The property offers cycling, hiking, yoga, horse riding and the opportunity to hire bikes. Those who’s affections lie with less adrenaline inducing activities find their solace in the Spanish classes, bird watching and local food preparation workshops available.
Cafe de la Suerte sits in one of the most sought-after areas the town has to offer. It is the envy of other Pavones surf camps. Guests rave about the bird watching opportunities, the fact the beach is just 50m away, and the stunning scenery, which can be enjoyed from the communal garden or private balconies.
Solo travellers described the property as ‘exceptional’ and a strong 9.7/10. Locals run the property, and share hints and tips with travellers that ensure each guest makes the most of their trip to Pavones. Rooms at Cafe de la Suerte sleep up to three or four guests, in an array of queen, twin and bunk beds. Guests can opt for either a sea or garden view.
Surf House Pavones
This property is a surfers paradise, offering easy beach access by foot and some of the best waves in Costa Rica! Water sport facilities offer an alternative activity, and Surf House is one of few Pavones surf camps to have them.
Pavones surf camps often cater for biking and hiking as well as surfing, as the area has much to offer inland. Surf House Pavones is no different, offering free bike hire to all it’s guests.
Surf House Pavones is a very chilled out surf house operating as a vegan house (at least it was when we were there). It’s a great place to meet and surf with like-minded people and in the evenings there are two main chill out areas where one can reflect on an epic day of wave riding.
The rooms are basic with sizes ranging from a double to a shared room of 6. Other than the double room, the shared rooms all share one set of showers and toilets. It’s the closest property to Pavones main break, and from the patio you’ll be able to watch the waves.
Tiskita Jungle Lodge
Guests at Tiskita receive more for their money than other Pavones surf camps, with luxury accommodation and extras. Each room receives free wifi, a private bathroom, and a balcony with a garden view. There is no greater place for a nature lover to stay.
Tiskita Jungle Lodge provides all that visitors could want, from water sports facilities to snorkelling and cycling. A buffet breakfast is available each morning, including mouth-watering vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free options
Popular facilities at Tiskita are the beachfront and the bar, both of which create a social atmosphere to enhance the experiences of each guest. Compared to other Pavones surf camps, this hotel is particularly good for families. Babysitting services, boardgames, DVDs and an indoor play area barely scratch the surface on what this place has to offer children and families.
Double rooms are available with a choice of either a queen, twin or standard double bed. Families can book rooms with three twin beds, or alternatively a double bed with a one or two single beds.
